|I grew up in West Valley, UT just a few hundred yards from the Garfield Branch at about milepost 12.7. Through the late 80's I was an avid Grande fan and would ride my dirt bike up to the tracks just to see the train go by. I lost interest and by the time I paid anymore attention to railroading in early 2005, it was too late and had no knowledge of the 1996 assimilation into the UP system. Talk about something slipping through your fingers... Since then, I was fortunate enough to be able to purchase the Nathan M3 horn that was on GP30 #3004 at the time of retirement. I also had to get my hands on a Nathan P3 (unknown origin), as both of these were widely used by the Grande. My wife and I moved from the Salt Lake area down to Mesa, Arizona in June of '06, where I work as a radio communications tech for the city of Mesa. I miss being in Grande territory and look forward to return trips to visit.
